What Wedding Venue Should I Choose for an Intimate Wedding?

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

With more couples opting for intimate weddings, here is a little list of some of my favourite venues that are perfect for smaller groups.

This heritage venue is IMMACULATE, it requires almost no decor and is perfect for small weddings. It's a definite favourite of mine! The grounds are beautiful and you can take most of your portraits on site.

Having less than 20 guests? Consider getting married in the green solarium, it's super romantic, has a stained glass ceiling to die for and gets beautiful light even in the winter.

Trying to keep it simple? Try booking it through Going the The Chapel's Hycroft Package

Located right next to the ocean (and Jericho beach), this heritage venue makes a great choice for a wedding big or small. Couples can choose a morning or evening ceremony, and exchange vows in front of this massive oak before celebrating with your family and friends in a tented reception.

This is such a sweet little venue! It's set in Queen Elizabeth Park, and is a tropical bird conservatory. There are free roaming birds, giant cactus plants and a little waterfall feature. The environment stays warm all year (so it's great for little weddings in the off season when you're unsure about the weather). They are open February - October, and have time slots before and after their public hours.

This venue is so romantic, has that incredible industrial look that can be softened up with greenery and florals, and to top it all off has THE BEST food that will wow your guests. I've loved every opportunity I've had to shoot here!

Florals by Umbertos Flowers

While we're chatting industrial venues, this is a really awesome unique space over near Chinatown. I always get excited when my couples book this space because I know they are planning something cool! It's a really neat blank canvas kind of space that you can split into a ceremony setup and reception set up. There is also an awesome bar space and lots of room to host a larger intimate wedding with room to social distance.

This church is pint sized and adorable located within Burnaby's Village Museum. Nearby is Deer Lake Park, perfect for portraits, and Hart House which makes a great reception spot (they have a small cabin on site for little wedding receptions).

Pro Tip - I love this venue but it's on the darker side so be sure to choose a day time ceremony when light will stream through the stained glass window for best results.

If you are up for a little bit of travel, this venue is MAGICAL. One of my favourites EVER. The views are just incredible and the wisteria covered reception area is super romantic and heated. There are tons of spots for beautiful portraits. It's just super serene.

Pro-tip - If you want to avoid doing a full venue buy out choose a weekday ceremony at the edge of the season (spring or fall).

This adorable Lavender Farm venue is located in Abbotsford. It features a grass lawn for your ceremony, or a covered patio backup location in case of rain. It's a blank slate ready for your ideas.

Chilliwack's tiny heritage chapel makes a perfect setting for an intimate wedding and has a beautiful bright reception space. I love the large windows that give this venue a really romantic feel.

This venue is a well kept secret, and an awesome little gem for a laid back couple looking for a unique, intimate space they can make their own. It is budget friendly so take the $ you save on the rental and put them towards your decor budget to make the most of this space.

Just a couple of hours out of Vancouver is this incredible venue! It has lake views, a tented reception site, gorgeous ceremony spot, private beach AND you can book a boat to a waterfall for your portraits. Love this one!

Other amazing intimate wedding venues to check out:

Fraser River Lodge - This place has incredible views, a gorgeous indoor reception space and some amazing spots for portraits nearby. It feels very private and romantic.

American Creek Lodge - This is on my bucket list! Killer views, an intimate ceremony space. Reach out to me if you're booking this place, I might have a deal for you.

Brix & Mortar - Located right downtown, ceremonies take place in a covered courtyard area. This is a must see!

Vancouver Art Gallery - While more public, this space is ultra glamourous. Ask if you can access the rooftop for some group portraits, the view is worth seeing!

L'Abbatoir - If you love Gastown and good food give this a look, it's a private space above L'Abbatoir where you can host a small ceremony & reception.

Steamworks - If you like the look of those big beautiful windows at Swaneset but want something that feels more intimate this is a great choice.

The Diamond - A similar vibe to Chambar, but you'll love the incredible chandelier that hangs over the window lit ceremony space. This is an intimate wedding dream space.
